“TeamU is your biggest cheerleader. Everyone is supported when stepping into new roles and developing their skills.” - Leigha Wilson, Experience Designer.

Since joining team UBank (AKA TeamU) just under two years ago, Leigha has worked across a bunch of exciting design jobs and recently stepped into a well-deserved new role.

But before starting her new gig in the Experience Design team, you would have found her working as a Visual Designer in the Communications Team. In this job, she developed impressive skills, collaborated with lots of people across the business and transformed UBank’s internal brand.

“The best part about my old role was working with so many different people. From Marketing to the Leadership Team, I was involved in a variety of projects, which kept things really interesting and exciting. I could be designing a document for the Home Loan Hub one day and designing new t-shirts for the team the next. There was never a dull moment!”

Shaping the internal brand was a big win for Leigha (and TeamU!). She was in charge of redesigning the internal brand guidelines, which included presentation templates, icons and other branded documents. She also championed the roll out of the guidelines, ensuring TeamU were using the templates. It was no easy feat, but she took the challenge head-on and smashed it.

“The project I’m most proud of is creating the brand hub, which became the home for our internal brand guidelines and templates. Having the same look and feel across all touchpoints helped create consistency and set the standard for the internal UBank brand.”

Another one of Leigha’s achievements was taking on her latest role, as an Experience Designer. In her new role, she designs UBank products to be as user-friendly as possible and works closely with our developers to bring them to life for customers.

“Working in the Experience Design team is where I get to unleash my love for design, tech and innovation. I’ve still got so much to learn, but everyone has my back and encourages me to jump on projects, like designing web pages and running user-testing.”

At UBank, customers are our top priority and Leigha enjoys creating tools she knows they’ll love, while growing her skill set along the way.

“The User Experience (UX) part of my job is so different from what I was doing before because we dive into the customer research side a lot more. Everything we design isn’t just about making it look good - we think about our customers and their needs every step of the way.”

Career growth is a key priority for us at UBank. We have a strong focus on personal development and empower TeamU to hit their goals, which is something Leigha really values about the workplace culture.

“Having a development plan is really good because it shows how I could grow at UBank. My people leader also supports me with attending workshops and courses. I’m heading to a banking 101 session soon so I can understand more about how UBank runs.”

A few fun facts about Leigha:

  • Her free time is spent drawing digital art, and because she’s always up for a challenge, each artwork she creates “has to be harder than the last”.
  • Leigha’s Achilles heel is The Great British Bake Off. She also loves listening to sci-fi podcast Dune Cast and scrolling through Reddit.
  • When she’s working from home, you’ll spot her Ragdoll cat Momo in most Zoom calls.
